Just a couple of things..

Tomorrow is our Grinch play! We have been working diligently to make this a special treat for you. After our play, we ask that you come back to our class for a brief moment so your child can give them your Christmas gift.

In the PM class, we ask that parents help their child bring back their chair and then get their Christmas gift.

AM class- 8:00-8:30ish
PM class- 1:00- 1:30ish

In response to the even that happened in Connecticut on Friday, I won't be discussing it in class. We do have protocols in place in case something of that nature occurs.  I want you to know how much I care for your children and how much I love them.

At the beginning of the new year, we will be starting a new volunteer calendar where I will ask everyone to sign up on a new google doc. Each month I'll make sure our parent coordinators email to remind you. I do ask that each of you make sure your background checks are up to date so that we have the safest environment (I think the school has information about this). I'll also be giving parents more responsibility in the classroom (putting away take home library books in their backpacks and teaching a center).

Thank you for all you do!
I'll see you tomorrow!

Update On Our Classroom

Dear Parents,

As a kindergarten team, we hope that all students know their letter names and sounds. We also hope that all students can recognize numbers 1-30. All students should also recognize the words: I, can, we, the, like, a, see, & go.

This week we are finishing up learning about our seven continents with Australia & Antarctica. We have been learning our continent song, here are the lyrics:

We have seven continents in our world, seven continents in our world,
North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia,
Don't forget Australia and Antartica too!

Last week we also learned our Bubble Gum song which goes like this,

I put a penny in the gum slot,
I watched the gum roll dooowwwn,
I get the gum and you get the wrapper,
'Cause I put the penny in the gum slot.

Then we choose a letter and replace the beginning sound which each sound, for example: Mi Mut ma menny min ma mum mlot, mi matched ma mum moll mooowwwn. Its a fun song to emphasis phonemic awareness.

This week and next week we will be talking about Thanksgiving and other things we are thankful for.
Next week, we will not have school 21st, 22nd. & 23rd.

We will not be needing classroom Volunteers the month of December because we will be practicing for the annual Grinch play that we will be preforming December 18th during the school day. We will commence classroom volunteers in January.
Thanks!
Michelle Anglesey

Vision Screening This Week

Dear Parents,

This week Nov. 12-16 we are vision screening K-3rd grade.

Please have your child bring their glasses if they wear them.

If you choose not to have your child screened, please send an email tojevans@renacademy.org by Sunday Nov. 11. A form will also need to be signed.

Thanks,

Report Card Reminder

Dear Parents,

Report cards will be mailed to your house within the next couple of weeks. I would like to take a moment to help you understand your Kindergartners report card. In Kindergarten, our grades our skills based. This means we have a set of skills that we would like each child to master each term and/or for the year. Your child will have either a NH (needs help) P (Progressing) M (Master) or - (not taught). There are several skills that need additional cognitive and physical development before we teach it to the class. Other skills are on going or build on each other. Knowing our alphabet letters/sounds and numbers are skills we expect each child to have mastered by the end of the year. We introduce a certain number of sight words each term. If your child is successful in recognizing these words, your child will get a master and etc.

If your child has received a NH in an area, that means they need additional help from you at home. If your child has received a P, that means your child is progressing and they are almost to a master and they are working hard, they may still need help from you at home. If your child has received a letter M, that means your child has mastered the skill for this term. Your child may received a M one term and the next a P. Each term, our skills in each category may change; we build upon, challenge, and deepen our knowledge.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me. Also, we are NOT using One Point this term so your student's grades are NOT reflective of your child's work.

Thanks!

Week Oct 16-19

Dear Parents,

Our copiers are having problems the past couple of days and we will not be able to get the homework copied for this week. If you have access to a printer, please print the homework out this week. You could even sign first page if you can do some of it on your computer. (Check your email for the hw document)

Also, I'm not sure how many families are aware of the $40 Kindergarten field trip donation that we ask parents to donate at the beginning of the year. Our field trips are only based on how many field trip donations are donated to the front office. If you haven't paid the donation and are able to do so, please see the front office as quickly as possible so we are approved and able to go on field trips this year.

Thanks again,

Mrs. Anglesey

We will be going to Pumpkinland down near Lindon at Vineyard Gardens on OCTOBER 30th. We will be meeting here in our classrooms at 9:15am and leaving promptly at 9:30am. Field Trip and Lots of Thanks!

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for those who attended our SEPs. It always enjoyable to meet you and talk to you about your child.

Our field trip this month is still being postponed. We are trying to find a place that can accommodate 100 Kindergartners at one time. I will however give you a heads up on how kindergarten field-trips go. Our field trips are roughly the same amount of time your child would be in Kindergarten that day. That being said, we usually pick a later in the mornings, a three hour block, have a sack lunch, and then come back to school. When we come back to school, your child goes home. On field trip days you will be told what time to bring your child and what time to pick your child up. You may need to make special arrangements so that your child may attend. Anyways, I'll keep you informed as we know more about what we will be doing.

Again, thank you so much!

Week 24-28

Am class, I had homework already and forgot to pass out the folders! I'm so sorry! It will be sent out tomorrow, just do your best to complete it. We also realized that October 10th is picture day so we won't be going on our field trip that day. We are looking to go on October 9th that week's Tuesday.

We are taking about the word we and the letter/sound Aa. We will be blending a and m as well. Thanks for all you do!

Parent Volunteer Helpful Tips

Parent Help during Job Time
Thanks for your willingness to help during Center/job time (I use either phrasing).  We really appreciate your time and help in our classroom!  Please help us reinforce classroom procedures during center time while I am reading with students.  Here are a list of procedures and helpful hints that I expect from my students while they’re working.

1.     Students should be on task using their inside voices.
2.     Students are responsible for their own messes.  Please do not clean up after them or get materials out for them.  I want them to take responsibility for their own desk area and materials.  If they leave something on the floor, forget to put a pencil away, need to push in their chair, etc., please invite them back to clean up after themselves.
3.    Ask 3 Before Me”- I use this phrase if kids have a question.  I have them ask 3 friends for the answer before they ask the teacher or adult in the room.
4.      3 or more colors”- All work that is colored must have 3 or more colors.
5.    Ask students to hand sanitize if they are putting hands in their mouths or touching their nose.
6.     Interrupting- Kids touch an adult’s shoulder or elbow to get your attention.  When you are ready to respond, you touch their hand and ask them what they need.
7.     Follow the pocket chart- When students ask what they do next have them look at the blue pocket chart to find their answer.  Please guide them to help solve their own questions and problems!
8.      Gluestick Rules- Put glue around the edges and one “x” in the middle.  Twist the glue down and wait to hear the snap of the lid going on.
9.      Highlighting Letter and Number Formation- please use a highlighter to trace over student’s numbers or letter formation when needed.  Students then erase their pencil marks and trace yours.  I have light colored markers by the sink and some highlighters in my cup at my desk.
10.           When a student asks you how to spell something say, “use your best kindergarten spelling” or say, “sound it out.”  You may help them sound out a word, but please don’t tell them the letters.
11.           When a student carries scissors, have them hold the blade clasped in the palm of their hand.
12.           Assume all seat work goes in their cubby to go home, unless I’ve said otherwise.

Field Trip Date

Our field trip to Wheeler Farm in Salt Lake is tentatively set for October 10th. You will be contacted shortly for sign ups etc. That day we will wear "Performance Dress" which means white polo/blue bottoms. More information will be given out as the day grows closer.

Week of Sept 17-21st

Parents,

This week is our first week of parent volunteers. Please be patient as we are still learning how to work independently/figure everything out. THANK YOU so much for those parents that have helped us the last couple of days. It really helps out a lot.

This is also our first week of homework. Please help your child as needed with the tasks. Look how they are holding their pencil/scissors. I've been noticing some kids still struggling with scissors so reinforcement at home is great. Thank you for all the support.

Our week emphasis includes:
Math- graphing/sorting, Letter/Sound-Mm, Word- We

Next week we will be working on "family jobs" so we will need to borrow some items from home for both of our classes (you will get them back after next week). If you've got them, email me at manglesey@gmail.com
- laundry basket
- small clothes (we are going to be folding/sorting laundry)
- clothes with various size buttons
- shoes with laces
- small water pitchers
- table cloth
-5 place mats

Thanks Again!

Just to update you on the things we are learning this week:

Briefly introducing letters A-J and introducing the word "I" (maybe you saw their orange I with I messages?)

We have learned several new songs such as Monday Marching, Mother Gooney Bird and Slipper Fish!

If you have any questions or concerns please email me at manglesey@gmail.com

Please help your children review A-J, # 1-5, and the word "I" this week in the normal/casual things you do.
